As a child of ten years old, I wrote my first book. Of course I wrote into a cheap notebook and used also a cheap ballpoint pen. For years and years, my book remained (a manuscript if you will say it with a difficult word) in a drawer, until I completely forgot about it being there. On my sixteenth, I threw it away it into a trash basket. Honestly, now I am sorry about it, but it has happened.
When I was a teenager, I wrote many articles regarding different subjects, that were published in different magazines. Still doing it nowadays, you know! (At the moment a lot more in the Netherlands than in Dutch speaking Belgium.)
On top of that I was mostly intrigued by nature, especially animals. I could sit for hours on my knees, looking at a bunch of ants, a digging earthworm, a swinging beetle, or a 'webbing' spider.
Those two subjects -writing and observing animals- seemed to match perfectly.
