The Chess Classic is a yearly chess festival in Mainz, organized by the Frankfurt Chess Tigers. Computer chess is not a main event at this festival, but even side events are big here. The Baronís first involvement was when it was invited to play a man-machine demonstration match in Chess960 with IGM Levon Aronian. The next year a Chess960 computer tournament was also part of the Chess Classic, creating a surge in the release of new Chess960 capable chess engines.
In later editions the tournament used a qualifying stage to determine the four programs that were allowed to participate in the main tournament. The Baron never managed to qualify.
Unfortunately the Chess Classic is no longer being organised due to lack of sponsorship.
