History: Sanosuke used to be always looking for a fight and a worthy challenger and remained unbeaten until he met Kenshin. He was origionally hired to kill Kenshin, but Kenshin didn't only beat him in the fight, he also beat him mentally. He showed Sano that what he was doing (fighting for no good) was not the way he was supposed to live. When Sano was little he was a member of the Sekihoutai, lead by Captain Sagara. When the restauration was coming Sano, being a child with no family name, took the name of the man he honoured the most, captain Sagara's. But then the Inshinshishi betrayed the group (they said it was a false army, spreading false promises) and every member, including Captain Sagara, was killed. Thanks to Sagara's bravery, Sano got away. He was thrown off a cliff by Sagara in an attempt to save the life of his friend, giving away his own. Sano lived up to taking revenge for the loss of his friend, but realised, thanks to Kenshin, that taking revenge was no way to honour the dead. So he joined Kenshin and his friends and stood by them in battle. Kenshin and Sano become real good friends, as well in life as in battle. Kenshin trusts Sano with any job he gives him. He's never going to admit it, but he cares for everyone in the group very much and he really does have the hots for Megumi! He wears a kimono with on the back the symbol for 'bad' written on it. Sano does seem kind of a coldy when it comes to women, (never shows Megumi he digs her) until he meets Sayo. Shogo's sister seems to be the only girl alive to have touched his heart. I won't tell you how it ends though, because that would be a major spoiler :p For the Shinsen-Gumi
fans, it's not difficult to guess who Sanosuke is based upon. It's Sanosuke
Harada, Captain of the 10th division of the Shinsen-Gumi. He was a very
handy man, known as one of the 5 most goodlooking men of the Shinsen-Gumi,
even so that he's discribed as very fat in the book of Ryotaro Shiba "The
burning sabre", my bible. Always in battle, he has participated in every
critical battle of the Shinsen-Gumi. He was a very rude and impatient
man, but because of his modest origins, he managed to show a great sensibility
sometimes. He took good care of his units, especially the of the younger
ones. Even though he always had a personal opinion, he's the caring big
brother type, very common in manga. Even though he was presumed dead after
the war of Ueno, the legend tells that he survived and lead a group of
bandits in China. |
