Photographs
of traditional and especially new sport
events
and Physical
Culture
were very popular in the beginning of
the twentieth Century. Famous photo-icons
of sports where made by Jacques
Henri Lartigue
(1894 - 1986) in his childhood.
These icons often depict the
rise of motorcar racing as seen in the
competitions organized by the A.C.F.,
Automobile Club de France. Another new
spectacular devellopment, one of the oldest
Dreams of Mankind, was the dawn
of aviation,
also seen in Lartigue's images.
Less famous but historically equally informative
are the photographs by M.
Rol depicting the same spectacular
motorcar races and early
aviation experiments,
often taken at the same spot where Lartigue
was active.
The current page depict some vintage images
of motorcar
racing by
M. Rol. The
image on the left brings us back to the
Circuit de Mans in August 1913.
