Research

Within Barco medical imaging systems I am steering worldwide research activities and responsible for an international group of engineers. Apart from this coordinating role I am also doing research on topics related to image processing and medical display systems:

Display technology

Improving display technologies to make them more suitable for medical imaging. Problems for which I developed a solution include "spatial noise" and "defective pixels". These technologies have been integrated in a novel display system for mammography. Other research topics include novel display technology such as OLED and autostereoscopic displays.

Calibration algorithms

Algorithms to improve calibration accuracy of medical LCDs. This research is focused on DICOM GSDF compliance.

Human Visual System Modeling

Mathematical models to predict effects of characteristics of display systems on accuracy of clinical diagnosis.

Compression algorithms

Novel compression algorithms for use in medical imaging.
