Macchi C. 202 Folgore

Macchi 47 (1K) The Macchi C.202 Folgore was an Italian fighter aircraft that was used during the Second World War. The plane was developed from the Macchi C.200 Seatte. The C.202 was basically a C.200 with a new, more powerful, German build Daimler Benz DB 601 inline engine instead of the radial engine. The plane's performance was very good. When it arrived at the front, it was the best Italian fighter.
It was fast, agile and very good looking. It was named Folgore, which means lightning in Italian.
The Italian fighter proved to be quite a match for the Allied fighters in the Mediterranean. It could handle itself well in combat against Hurricanes, Spitfires, P-40's and P-38's. Only its rather weak armament was a handicap in combat.
Most Folgores fought with the Regia Aeronautica. When Italy split up during the war, Folgores ended up with the Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana, the Italian co-Belligerent Air Force and the Luftwaffe.

The 1/9th scale model of this great plane is made for a speed 500/600 size brushless motor powered by a 3s Lipo pack, capable of delivering at least 250 Watt. The fuselage is made around a box. The fuselage formers fit over this box. Then a couple of spruce spars are added and finally the planking is applied over the fuselage frame. The wing is made with ribs on a spar and is fully sheeted. All pieces feature tabs and locks. The prototype model was finished with 25g/m² glass cloth and resin.

The model is launched with a bungee and control is 4 channel. It is aerobatic and fast, but it has good low speed handling for landings.
