Argentina - Perito Moreno
This is the amazing glacier, Perito Moreno. With its huge ice peaks, it is considered to be the largest continental glacier of the world (the bigger ones in Antartica float on the sea, this one starts on land and eventually ends in a lake).

As you can see, the cristal blue of the ice reflects well into the flag of Argentina. The balcony in front of this massive glacier allowed us to have a really close view of the glacier (close, meaning 50 a 80 meters). The glaciar is also in constant movement (2 meters a year) , view and sound appeared to be in perfect harmony.

Started walking from our campsite, we walked off-road next to the ice-lake as we had nice views of Perito Moreno, hiding in the clouds. On this trail, we also saw some huge ice masses floating in the water...

Perito Moreno in spring time.

And here, the best of the glacier. We waited for several hours for this to happen and we were very lucky. A huge ice peak fell off the glaciar causing a spectacular splash with thundering sounds, very impressive. (luckely we were just playing with our camera so we were able to shot the action)
When seeing this picture, you stil cannot really imagine the exact size of the glacier or even of the ice-peak that
fell off, trust us, the glacier is as high as an appartment of 4 floors...

On this picture, you still can see the after waves of the fallen ice-peak. Try to compare this with the big! boat all the way on the right of the picture... The green dots on the mountain behind the glacier are big trees!

Because digital cameras sharpen everything on the picture and you cannot choose were to focus on, it is sometimes
very hard to tell distances between the several objects in the picture, this can be very misleading! The same
happens when you take a picture of a valley.

Back at the camping "Hidden Bay" (btw: most beautifull camping we ever saw, we had a "suite" that overlooked the lake with
the glacier behind, this for only 3 dollars a night :)
After walking 14 km that day (7km one way to the glacier) Tonio started playing with the fire next to our tent. That huge flame almost set the tree behind him on fire...
But at least,it was nicely warm after this glacier cold day...
