During the summer of 1996 we travelled in Iran for about 5 weeks.
At that time it was hard to find info about Iran through the Internet.
We'd learned some Persian words before we left, but in Iran we managed to get around with Turkish (my wife is Turkish & I speak some Turkish as well), especially in the provinces of Azerbadjan and Khorasan.
We flew to Istanbul and then we went overland to Dogubeyazit, in the east of Turkey.
At Bazargan we crossed the border and from there to Tabriz, Sanandaj, Kermanshah, Hamadan, Tehran, Qom, Kashan, Esfahan, Yazd, Kerman, Bam, Shiraz and Bushehr we did everything overland. From Bushehr we took a flight to Rasht (Caspian coast) and we stopped in a couple of towns near the sea.
We also went to Bandar-e-Torkoman & then on to Mashhad (with a few short stops in between).
We spent about 4 days in Mashhad and from there we flew back to Tabriz and then back by car to Turkey... a fantastic trip !
During those 5 weeks we met a lot of people, some of them became really good friends. Iran is a fantastic country to travel in, hope you like the pictures...
If you still like to see and read more about our trip, read the article I wrote for The Iranian.
