Conclusion and evaluation

With this dissertation I tried to reach the initial teacher training department of the KHLim to offer an instrument to accompany the introduction of competence-based learning, limited to the use of an ELO in the future education model. The dissertation was worked out as an ECD-project. This document is one of the three parts of the ECD-project.  The project can be consulted by the external partners on the website http://users.pandora.be/valere.awouters. For the lecturers there is a concrete study program ‘Teaching and learning with ICT’ in our ELO N@tschool (http://elo.khlim.be/natschool), login “_guestILSO, password will be given on request).

In part I the theoretical framework for integrating teaching and learning with ICT in competence-based learning was clarified. This theoretical framework had not as goal to do a literature research, but just to offer these theoretical insights that are necessary to integrate teaching and learning with ICT with success in competence-based learning. This part learned us that teaching and learning with ICT can have surplus for students learning track.

In part II  results of the analysis of the questionnaires of lecturers and students were reviewed. An e-learning helpdesk is crucial according to lecturers, just as having basic ICT-skills. The analysis of students questionnaires learns us that integrating teaching and learning with ICT in teacher training as a model role can already have consequences for integrating teaching and learning with ICT in secondary education. The introduction of an ELO in higher education seems to be parallel with Secondary Education.

In part III  the didactic aspects of the ELO n@tschool was examined. An answer to the question: ‘Now I have an ELO, what can I do with it?’ was tried to formulate. The answers to this question with examples are worked out digital in the study program teaching and learning with ICT in N@tschool. The next step is the development of multimedia learning content in addition to traditional handbooks or course materials. The possibility to let students offer own learning materials, e.g. by internet-websites is a logical consequence of the acceptance of the socio-constructivistic way of learning, competence-based learning and giving students possibilities for completing own learning tracks.

This evolution will take time en has to be implemented with taking into account necessary elements respect of change. It seems wise to change step by step.
