Tying a Fiador knot

Halter My selfmade rope hater with Fiador knot

Tying a Fiador knot

 Step 1

Form two loops with one end of the rope: put the end two times on top of the standing part. Insert the second end through the top loop, pull it under the bottom loop and insert it through the bottom loop.  Fiador - Step 1

 Step 2

Insert the first end trough the new loop of the second end and trough the first loop of his standing part into the middle of the knot.
Weave the second end under his standing part, over the first end and under his standing part. Pull the end trough the second loop over the second loop and insert it also in the middle of the knot.
 Fiador - Step 2

 Step 3

Tighten and adjust loops by slipping rope through knot  Fiador - Step 3

Fiador knot based on a bend

This method, I found out myself, looking for an easier way to tie the Fiador knot. I first tie the woven ring. This bend is similar to a Carrick bend. In a last step, I pull both ends and the loop through the middle of the bend to make the Fiador knot.

 Step 1

Form a loop with one end of the rope, with the end on top of the standing part. Insert the second end through the loop.
Carrick - Step 1

 Step 2

Pull the end around and on top of the standing part. And weave the end under its own standing part, over and under the first end.
Carrick - Step 2

 Step 3

Take the first end and insert it through the loop.
Carrick - Step 3

 Step 4

Pull the loop and the two ends of the rope through the middle of the bend. Pull the two side loops in the opposite direction
Carrick - Step 4

 Step 5

When you look to the knot from the top, you see the very nice symmetrical structure of the fiador knot  Carrick - Step 5

 Step 6

Tighten and adjust loops by slipping rope through knot  Carrick - Step 6
