After a long time of thinking how great playing in a band would be, we decided in june 1996 to form a band ourselves. After two months of practising we already had composed twelve songs in real prikkeldroadpunk- style’ : for instance ‘Dedicated to Nijntje’, ‘Straight Catch’, I feel like Chicken tonight’ (Jane’s Dedt. eat your heart out : we were first :) ) and our cult hit ‘HNZN (Het nummer zonder naam). The first time these songs were exposed to humanity was in the beginning of september 1996 at Café Bombardon in Meerle.

After this quite succesful evening – there were around 200 people watching us – a bunch of gigs followed. An article in ‘De Hoogstraatse Maand’ made Whypoal world-famous in our region, especially because of our name. (A     ‘Whypoal’ is in our dialect a pole, which is placed around pastures and is linked with other poles by barbed wire). A lot of gigs – and a lot of better songs – later, we decided ‘round Christmas 1997 to dive into a record studio in order to put some songs on a demo. At Jack’s Place ten songs were recorded and nine of them were put on the demo, titled ‘THE CHIX FILES’. With this demo we got the opportunity to play with bands like Concrete Cell, The Travoltas, Convict, etc… and with the legendary SATANIC SURFERS. (this show was foreseen at Cahier De Brouillon in Hoogstraten, but exactly this show was cancelled by the Satanics because of the illness of their singer, damn !!!). In the meanwhile we also set foot on the territory of the world-wide internet. Our site « http://come.to/whypoal » has already got a few transformations and is – following our modesty :) - worth while a visit. Exams in june 1998, but also in august & september meant a short break for Whypoal. But in october 1998 we were rehearsing again, which resulted in a couple of new songs, who were much more melodic en mature than before. These songs will probably be put on a splitt-CD with a punkrockband from Lokeren. (foreseen for the autumn of ’99). Untill that time we will still playing gigs, so if you wanna check us out live … then go for it ! ! ! !
