In September 1761 a contract was signed between the Maréchale de Luxembourg, acting on behalf of Rousseau, and the publisher Nicolas Duchesne. Duchesne made in November 1761 an agreement with the Dutch publisher Jean Néaulme for a parallel edition outside France.
