In case you don't know.....

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1892-1973) was a major scholar of the English language, specialising in Old and Middle English. University Professor (Oxford), and of course, a very talented writer.
He invented a world : Middle-Earth, it's geography, it's history, and even several languages.
His two main writings are "The Hobbit", published in 1937, and "The Lord of The Rings", published 1954-1955.
He begun "The Lord of The Rings" in 1936 (or early 37)....

For many, as for myself, "The Lord of The Rings" is more than "a book". It's just about impossible to find the words to explain such a statement. I suppose that I can say that Middle-Earth is part of my reality.

The Editors (George Allen & Unwin) mention in an attempt of description "heroic romance", and state : "Tolkien created a new mythology in an invented world which has proven timeless in it's appeal"

Warm-hearted and exiting adventure stories involving people, elves, dwarves, orcs, goblins, wizards, and ...... hobbits !!

If you really don't know Tolkien and his writings, well, surf around a bit, but then, turn your computer off and go and buy your copy of "The Lord of The Rings" !!!!!!!!
........and as Gandalf would say : "and be swift !"

Regarding the movie

Great movie it is! Phew!
To be honnest, I was quite afraid; but Peter Jackson has done a great job.
And what a good idea to ask advice from John Howe & Alan Lee!
I feel Peter Jackson is a Tolkien fan like so many;, and has the appropriate respect. Great, great, great.
And to see so many people interested, quite a few will read the book, and most of them will as happy as can be!

I mention nothing about the movie here; many sites do that much better I would. And I have not used any pictures from the movie either.

Comments & updates
I made these pages for my pleasure, and I hope yours.
I "picked" up most of the content from "here & there", if anyone would object to the presence of anything, please tell me, I'll remove it immediately (after checking it's not just a tease !)
Surfing around Tolkien sites has been a delight, there are so many sites, and some are really impressing !
Doing so, I decided to....... re-read The Lord of The Rings !
Again, pages of sweet delight...........

Tolkien "Freaks", you will not find here any material you wont encounter on many, many, many sites.

I made the pages up compromising as I could between aesthetic and loading time. I realise most pages will be sometimes a bit slow to upload, but I wanted them pleasant to see. So I hope you can go around without getting angry of slow loading.
I have made an update of the site, but I have kept things ok for older displays. Some of the new pages have large pictures, those using a modem might have some upload problems, but I took into account that many people now have a fast connection.

Enjoy your visit and feel free to write !
